This house and the neighboring houses are also from the Hmong minority and about 100 years old.

You will also find buildings in the province that date back to the French colonial era. The old quarter in Dong Van is the best example of this. You will find an old French fort on a mountain behind the Old Qaurter where you now have a great viewpoint of the town. Although Ha Giang is slowly becoming more developed, the available accommodation is generally fairly simple. Larger cities such as Dong Van and Ha Giang do have hotels, but guesthouses and homestays are more common. They may offer fewer basic services, but they give you the opportunity to communicate with your local hosts and give them a glimpse into their daily lives.

Food & drinking

The far north of Vietnam is a surprisingly tasty place to find good Vietnamese food. The restaurant scene consists of small “quan” restaurants where you have to sit on a small stool while the food is being cooked before your eyes. The locals will probably beg you to taste some rice wine, something you should be careful with.

Breakfast and dinner you will often eat at your homestay. It is recommened to book a family dinner and eat with the family of the host and other guest.

Busses to Ha Giang

There are buses and limousine vans driving between Hanoi and Ha Giang. You have the options for different night buses, varying in comfort, with the limousine VIP buses being the most comfortable option. The limousine vans drive during the day time and are a very comfortable option. The drive takes about 6 hours.

In addition there is also a bus between Sapa and Ha Giang. For other destinations you first have to travel to Hanoi.

Private cars to Hanoi

You can also take a private car from Hanoi to Ha Giang or extend your Ha Giang loop by starting already from Hanoi. 

How to get around

Motorbike – Going from one city to another in Ha Giang is easy and most fun by motorbike. Roads are winding and steep, but generally well-paved, so you can drive comfortably. If you are an inexperienced driver, do not underestimate these roads. You may want to consider taking a driver for safety. Being on the back of an easyrider is a great way to discover Ha Giang.

Car – Another good way to travel around Ha Giang is by car with driver. Book in advance to make sure that someone is waiting for you when you arrive in Ha Giang.

Phu Quoc sets world record for ‘Kiss of the Sea’ show

The “Kiss of the Sea” show in Phu Quoc was recognized the “Largest permanent water projection theater” by the Guinness World Records organization on April 23.

This is the first time an outdoor theater in Vietnam has achieved a Guinness World Record and the second Guinness title awarded to Phu Quoc, following the record for the world’s longest three-wire cable car previously set by the Hon Thom Cable Car.

The “Largest permanent water projection theater” was awarded based on two key criteria.

First, the theater boasts a seating capacity of 5,108, surpassing other outdoor multimedia performance venues featuring water projection globally. This capacity is two to three times larger than similar shows such as “Wings of Time” (Sentosa, Singapore, 2,500 seats) and “Legend of Pangu” (Lanzhou, China, 1,500 seats).

Second, the stage features a large-scale, permanent, and dedicated water projection screen exclusively used for a single nightly show. Its water screen stands 23 meters high and 44 meters wide, providing a projection surface of up to 920 sq.m.

This Guinness World Record marks a new milestone in the success of “Kiss of the Sea”, the first large-scale multimedia show in Phu Quoc. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Director of Sun World Hon Thom, the show’s operator, stated that this recognition by Guinness World Records is a proud achievement not only for Sun Group but also for Phu Quoc tourism and Vietnam. “We believe this award will further elevate “Kiss of the Sea” as a signature entertainment experience and an international event venue, contributing to Phu Quoc’s ambition of becoming a leading regional hub for arts and entertainment.”

The show is the result of a collaboration between Sun Group and ECA2, a French creative studio known for legendary productions such as the 1998 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Paris, the Eiffel Tower Millennium Celebration in 2000, and over 60 multimedia shows across 17 countries.

With a total investment of VND1.6 trillion (US$61.5 million), “Kiss of the Sea” was not only designed to impress but also to set records. At the show’s premiere in Phu Quoc, Jean-Christophe Canizarès, CEO of ECA2, said that this is the largest open-sea show in Asia, and possibly in the world, that ECA2 has ever created. “The scale of this project is reflected in every aspect, from architecture and engineering to creative design and production processes.”

Emmanuelle Charotte, ECA2’s Deputy Director of Business Development, also emphasized the cutting-edge technologies used in the show, highlighting its status as the world’s first stage to feature three continuous projection domes. [BREAKING NEWS] Resolution 11/NQ-CP on visa exemption for citizens of Poland, Czech Republic and Switzerland

Hanoi, February 26, 2025 – The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced the Plan to implement Government Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP, dated January 15, 2025, along with the 2025 Tourism Development Stimulus Program, under the theme “Vietnam – Timeless Journey, Endless Love!”

The program is issued to implement Government Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP on visa exemption in the Tourism Development Stimulus Program in 2025 for citizens of the Republic of Poland, the Czech Republic and the Swiss Confederation and Government Resolution No. 25/NQ-CP dated 5 February 2025 on growth targets of the economy; improve the quality of service for tourists, and foster the attraction of international tourists to Vietnam in 2025.

1.Information on the implementation of Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP

The visa exemption policy with a temporary residence period of 45 days from the date of entry for tourism purposes for citizens of the Republic of Poland, the Czech Republic and the Swiss Confederation under Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP is implemented from 1 March 2025 to 31 December 2025 to stimulate tourism development. Citizens of the 3 countries entering Vietnam need to meet: entry conditions under the unilateral visa exemption according to the Law on entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners in Vietnam, and passports with a validity of at least 6 months. They are required to travel on tours organized by Vietnam’s inbound licensed tour operators and show a confirmation of participation in the tour program issued by the Vietnam’s tour operators (according to Form No. 2). Vietnam’s tour operators need to send registration of organizing tour programs for citizens of the 3 countries to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (according to Form No. 1).

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinates with ministries, sectors, and local authorities to guide businesses to implement Resolution 11/NQ-CP and the Tourism Development Stimulus Program in 2025; strengthen communication and promotion to attract international tourists to Vietnam as well as organize the Vietnam Tourism Roadshow in the Republic of Poland, the Czech Republic and the Swiss Confederation and Vietnam Culture – Tourism Week in the Republic of Poland and the Czech Republic to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

The Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense create favorable conditions to welcome tourists to Vietnam under Resolution 11/NQ-CP entering via international border gates. Airlines increase connectivity, create favorable conditions, and serve international tourists who are exempted from visas under Resolution 11/NQ-CP.

2.Information on the Tourism Development Stimulus Program in 2025

To carry out Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP on visa exemption under the tourism stimulus program for 2025 for citizens of the Republic of Poland, the Czech Republic, and the Swiss Confederation, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued an implementation plan. This aims to attract international tourists from these markets to Vietnam and enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam’s tourism sector through preferential policies, streamlined entry procedures, and unique travel experiences.
The plan also contributes to implementing Resolution No. 25/NQ-CP dated February 5, 2025, of the Government, which sets growth targets across various sectors and localities, ensuring that the national economic growth rate in 2025 reaches 8% or higher. Specifically, the plan aims to achieve the following tourism targets:

  • International visitors: 22–23 million arrivals
  • Domestic tourists: 120–130 million trips

Furthermore, the plan seeks to strengthen coordination between localities, tourism enterprises, and related industries to develop attractive and cohesive tourism products in service of international visitors.

It also ensures the timely implementation of Government directives, fosters close cooperation among ministries, agencies, and local authorities, and encourages active participation from organizations and businesses in the aviation and tourism sectors.

According to the plan, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism will take the lead in developing, issuing, and announcing the 2025 tourism stimulus program. As part of this program, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize several key activities, including:

  • Promotional events introducing Vietnam’s tourism destinations in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland, in connection with the 2025 tourism stimulus program.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Following the rule of Vietnam National Authority of Tourism’s and Government Resolution 11/NQ-CP about visa exemption policy for citizens of Poland, Czech Republic and Switzerland traveling on tours to Vietnam valid from March 01st 2025 to December 31st 2025, Citizens of 3 countries above who want to get exemption visa to travel on tours to Vietnam need to have some documents as below:
1- Valid passport (at least 6 months of validity)
2- Tour purchase confirmation issued by Vietnam’s inbound licensed tour operators (When you purchase a tour with these company they will send you for a tour program and a confirmation of participation in the tour program issued by the Vietnam’s tour operators(according to Form No.2). Vietnam’s tour operators need to send registration of organizing tour programs for citizens of the 3 countries to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (according to Form No. 1). All documents has to be signed and stamped (approved) by the Vietnam’s inbound licensed tour operators.
3- To pass Immigration Dept and get visa exemption at Vietnam airport when you arrival, Vietnam’s inbound licensed tour operators (who you purchased the tour from them) have to prepare tour guider to wait for you there, show all the documents and take care tour program for you from the airport.

If you don’t meet all conditions above, when you arrival Vietnam airport, Immgration Dept. at the airport will ask you take the reverse flight back to departure airport and don’t accept for you enter Vietnam with visa exemption 45 days.

You should read carefully this article before you take the trip to Vietnam but still not purchase a tour with Vietnam’s inbound licensed tour operators.
